Søfartens Biblioteks Studiecenter er det danske fagbibliotek for søfart. Bibliotekets opgave er at fungere som informationscenter og bibliotek for alle med tilknytning til "Det blå Danmark". Søfartens Bibliotek råder over ca. 12.000 bøger om maritime emner. Desuden en omfattende tidsskriftsamling og fagligt relevante databaser, såsom Sea-web - fra Lloyd's Register/Fairplay. Oplysninger om mere end 140.000 skibe og 170.000 rederier og redere. Desuden mere end 100.000 fotos af skibe. AccessScience - encyclopedia of Science & Technology. Online database indeholdende mere end 8000 illustrerede fuldtekst artikler, samt mere end 110.000 ordbogsdefinitioner. Springerlink, som er en elektronisk tidsskriftsdatabase, der giver adgang til fuldtekst fra ca. 1400 videnskabelige tidsskrifter fra Springer Verlag. Databaserne kræver licens og kan anvendes på Søfartens Bibliotek.

Søfartens Biblioteks faguddannede bibliotekarer hjælper gerne såvel lærere som studerende med at finde informationer eller skaffe materialer til undervisning og opgaver. Biblioteket kan fremskaffe materialer (bøger, tidsskrifter, fotokopier) fra danske og nordiske biblioteker - uden omkostninger for brugeren. Bibliotekets materialer er søgbare gennem bibliotekets database på hjemmesiden www.sbib.dk Vi kan fremsende ønsket litteratur direkte til uddannelsesinstitutionens lærere eller du kan bestille materialet på dit lokale bibliotek og afhente det der, så sørger de også for at returnere materialet, når det skal afleveres. Biblioteket har etableret et lånesamarbejde med British Library -  www.bl.uk  - verdens største leverandør af dokumenter. Materiale herfra - bøger/tidsskrifter/fotokopier - kan fremskaffes mod et honorar, der dækker bibliotekets udgifter. Gode links til informations- og litteratursøgning Eksempel på frit tilgængelig online database - med dækning af det maritime område, primært med abstracts: Tris online: TRIS Online is a public-domain, web-based version of the Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) bibliographic database.  TRIS Online is published as a collaborative effort by the Transportation Research Board, part of the National Academies, and the National Transportation Library, part of Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) , Research and Innovative Technology Administration, (U.S. Department of Transportation).  TRB continues to produce and maintain the TRIS Database with funding by sponsors of TRB, primarily the State departments of transportation and selected federal transportation agencies.  The NTL publishes TRIS Online on its website. The TRIS Online database contains over half a million records of published transportation research including technical reports, books, conference proceedings and journal articles.  Currently there are almost 24,000 TRIS records with links to electronic copies of the full-text. The time span covers literature from the 1960s to the present, with some coverage of prior years. Highway Research Board publications are covered back to 1923.  TRIS coverage includes the disciplines of planning, finance, design and construction, materials, environmental issues, safety and human factors and operations for the modes of highways, transit, railroads, maritime and aviation. TRIS does not contain information on vehicle standards and specifications, patent information, market research, military transport or news articles. TRIS focuses on transportation research. TRIS Online includes material indexed and abstracted by TRB as well as the material entered by the Transportation Libraries at the University of California at Berkeley and Northwestern University.
